DAY 1: Arrival at Sofia airport. Transfer to the hotel and accommodation. Dinner and overnight stay in Sofia.
DAY 2: Breakfast. Guided tour of Sofia – St. Nedelya cathedral, St. George rotunda, Russian church St. Nicholas, St. Alexander Nevsky cathedral, St. Sofia church, Ivan Vazov National Theater. Lunch. A visit of the National Museum of History and the Boyana Church. The Boyana Church is included in the UNESCO List of World Cultural Heritage and has preserved frescoes of an unknown artist, which date back to the year 1259. The frescoes impress with the spirituality and expressiveness of their images, created 7 years before the birth of Giotto di Bondone, considered to be the first Renaissance artist. Dinner. Overnight stay in Sofia.
DAY 3: Breakfast. A visit of the Rila Monastery – the biggest monastery in Bulgaria, founded in the 10th century by the monk and hermit St. John of Rila, patron and protector of Bulgaria. The monastery served as the center for cultural and spiritual life of the Bulgarian people, during the centuries of foreign enslavement. The tour includes a visit of the monastery, the main church and the monastery museum. Lunch. Departure for Plovdiv – one of Europe’s most ancient cities, older than Athens, Rome and Constantinople. Arrival. Accommodation at the hotel. Dinner. Overnight stay in Plovdiv.
DAY 4: Breakfast. Sightseeing tour of Plovdiv – a tour of the old town, which represents one of the most spectacular ensembles of town houses from the period of the Bulgarian National Revival (middle of the 18th century until the end of the 19th century). Visit of Saints Constantine and Helena Church, Roman Theatre, Regional Ethnographic Museum. Lunch. In the afternoon - departure for Veliko Tarnovo – the capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire (1187-1396). Arrival. Accommodation in the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 5: Breakfast. Sightseeing tour of Veliko Tarnovo –Tsarevets hill, Samovodska Charshia. Lunch. Visit of the historical village of Arbanasi - the Konstantsaliev’s House – one of the biggest and most lavishly decorated houses of the Bulgarian National Revival and the Church of the Nativity of Christ, the oldest church in Arbanasi, unique with its frescoes. Return to Veliko Tarnovo. Dinner.
DAY 6: Breakfast. Departure to Ruse, the fifth biggest city in Bulgaria and the biggest Bulgarian port-city on the Danube River. On the way – visit of Ivanovo rock-hewn churches, included in UNESCO’s list of World Cultural Heritage. Arrival in Ruse. Lunch. Visit to the city center with its buildings from the end of 19th century. Ruse is known as the “Little Vienna”, because of the architecture of its monuments in baroque, rococo, secession and neoclassicism styles. In the center of Ruse one can find the most beautiful city houses in Bulgaria, built after the Liberation (1878). Accommodation in the hotel. Dinner. Overnight stay in Ruse.
DAY 7: Breakfast. Departure to Sofia. On the way – sightseeing tour of Pleven. A visit of Pleven Panorama, the only such monument on the Balkan Peninsula, built in honor of the 100th anniversary of Bulgaria’s Liberation from the Ottoman Empire. The battles near Pleven during the Russo-Turkish Liberation war (1877-1878), that brought the end of the 500 year Turkish enslavement, were vital for the outcome of the war. The five-month-long siege by the liberation troops ended when the city was finally taken after three epic attacks. The Pleven Panorama is built on a hill near Skobelev Park, where during the Third Assault on Pleven one of the war’s most bloody battles took place. In the Panorama are recreated events from the Russo-Turkish war and the epic battles for Pleven. The perfect combination of historical facts and their artistically-emotional recreation on the Panorama canvas leaves an unforgettable impression. Lunch. Continuing our way to Sofia. Arrival in Sofia. Accommodation in the hotel. Dinner in a typical Bulgarian restaurant with a folklore program. Overnight stay in Sofia.
DAY 8: Breakfast. Transfer to the airport.
