Magura Cavern
The Magura Cave is located in Northwestern Bulgaria, in the region of Vidin, 17 km away from the town of Belogradchik. It is one of the largest caves in Bulgaria with 2500 m of tunnels found so far. The prehistoric drawings engraved in the rock in one of the halls give evidence that the cave was inhabited in ancient times. There are figures of dancing men and women, as well as hunting and ritual scenes. Drawings show also many animals, stars, tools and plants. Drawings date from different time periods – Paleolithic, Neolithic, Chalcolithic and Early Bronze Age. The Magura Cave is included in the indicative list of UNESCO in 1984. The site is opened for visits.
